The original curiosity dates to the 19th Century 'feejee mermaids' were displayed at sideshows such as that that of the famous showman, P. T Barnum. These were also often known as monkey-fish as they were believed to be made from the head of a monkey and the tail of a fish.
However, The Horniman merman was scanned an x-rayed some years ago, revealing that it was actually constructed from an array of materials, including wire, clay and cloth. This result was fascinating, but a little disappointing in the eyes of B&E!
Here, the internal structure has been reimagined, revealing it's 'real' anatomy! This is a double-layered A4 archival quality Giclēe print of the original artwork by Laura Cronin aka Bumble & Earwig.
